Covid Journal, May 30, 2020 (American Civil War, 2.0)
America is Burning
I feel helpless.
Some time in the future: “Where were you when America fell into pieces, crashing into it’s second civil war?”
“I was in lockdown.”
“What did you do to help people who were being murdered by police?”
“I didn’t know what to do.”
I suppose I can write about it.
Right now – May 30, 2020 – the United States is burning in at least 20 cities and more are being added to the list every hour:
- Atlanta
- Bakersfield
- Boston
- Chicago
- Columbus
- Dallas/Fort Worth
- Des Moines
- Denver
- Detroit
- District of Columbia / Washington DC
- Houston
- Los Angeles
- Louisville
- Memphis
- Minneapolis
- New York City
- Phoenix
- Portland
- Sacramento
- San Jose
Donald Trump is PROVOKING violence by showing incredible stupidity with his Twitter comments.
On local levels, we see in places like Minneapolis that police provocateurs are the ones who are stirring up the illusion of looting in the city:
Looting also looks like this:
Isn’t anyone else wondering if Donald Trump isn’t intentionally trying to stimulate a civil war situation in the United States so that he can invoke Martial Law in a much more severe manner than is already inflicted across the country?
(And his ‘looting leads to shooting’ comment? Throwing meat to his racist base of votes).
Or that maybe he’ll either cancel or terminate the right to vote in November 2020 and declare himself the de facto winner because no one – especially in high density black American areas – will be able to vote for anyone else?
Yesterday, I predicted that civil war is coming to the United States.
I didn’t realize I was being so naive. It’s been there since the last civil war.
The victims have been subdued but not silenced.
Black America is now done with White Privilege.
White Privilege is waiting to pounce on the right conditions to declare ‘Electric Boogaloo‘.
The Boogaloo movement has moved increasingly offline and into the real world in recent months, with members showing up at right-wing “re-open” protests, heavily armed and wearing Hawaiian shirts (a really tedious riff on a misspelling of “boogaloo” as “big luau”).
Some movement members appeared at a Wednesday night protest in Minneapolis, in hopes of participating in a chaotic scene. Members of at least one “Boogaloo” Facebook group shared pictures of men holding a Boogaloo flag (patterned after a “Blue Lives Matter” flag, but with the movement’s trademark tropical pattern) outside an AutoZone that was later set on fire.
Some members of the group used the picture to call, superficially, for “solidarity” with protesters, claiming that “this is not a race issue.” But members of the group who posted in real time with supposed updates from the protests revealed other intentions. One, who claimed to be in a group of 16 other movement members at the protest, soon threatened to shoot Black Lives Matter activists because they were not helping enact his visions of violence.
Canada needs a serious action plan. Immediately.
- We need to partner with civil rights organizations like the ACLU, Amnesty International and the NAACP, amongst others.
- We need to have an exclusive open door policy to any African Americans that are fleeing the United States out of fear for their lives (with isolation requirements, of course).
- We need to reach out to the rest of the world and make sure that the American civil war doesn’t bleed across our borders and destroy the lives of so many Canadians.
What are your thoughts on what we should do next?
