Guns: The Simple Solution for the US
In the wake of ANOTHER mass shooting in the US, AGAIN with a high-powered automatic rifle, ripping the lives of many young kids and adults from their parents, I have a simple solution.
Of course, we know that banning guns isn’t possible and, frankly, will only drive the market underground.
And, as Donald Trump asks, mental might tweak the issue very slightly, but it still won’t reduce the volume of guns that are available on the market. Of course, it would also fuel the pharmaceutical industry which we know lines the pockets of most politicians in the US.
I have a different approach: tax the hell out of them.
It looks like an automatic weapon in the US might cost anywhere from $500 to $1,500.
I propose a $5,000 per weapon tax on any weapon purchased in the US.
Would it drive transactions underground? Sure it would.
But if the action saves just one life because someone having a rough day is slowed down from purchasing a new weapon, I think it’s worth considering.
And if you want to moderate the bitching and moaning from the Second Amendment folks? Say it’s temporary. The ‘withholding tax’ would be applied and returned within 180 days of the original purchase.
Of course, you’d have to do the same thing with ammunition. A box of shells or bullets might have a 1,000% levy assigned to them, refundable within 90 days.
Again, these actions might just be enough to slow someone down from spraying death all over the next generation of Americans.
