I thought I might be better prepared for this, but I’m still in shock from November 5, 2024 and how a small percentage of Americans decided it was OK to surrender to oligarchs and plutocrats.
THIS is the image that I remember best, like it was yesterday:

Flash-forward to 2025 and Trump has returned to the Capitol.
I still reel when I read my own words and can’t believe that people would have allowed this to happen, but Americans have surrendered their sense of logic and desire to be the moral and ethical leader of the world and have re-invited a rapist, felon and criminal to their leadership.
Canada was not immune to the insanity.
The so-called ‘Freedom Rally’ was nothing more than angry WEXITeers doing their bit to copy what had happened in the US and they too were almost successful in bringing about change in their bullying and tyrannical ways.
Canada was saved from this, but the leader of the opposition gladly sits with those who will do anything they can to trade decency for dollars and who have been disbarred from their own chosen profession.
The leader of the opposition will likely be anointed at some point in 2025 because Justin Trudeau didn’t have the wherewithal to withdraw from leadership and make a clear path for someone that wasn’t a lightning bolt for hate and anger in this country.
When the leader of the opposition comes to power, we can already see in the broken and fragmented politics of someone like Danielle Smith how human rights will be treated and trampled across the country and how religion will rule our governments from this point on.
Canadians cannot rely on HOPE because HOPE IS NOT A PLAN.
We need to vote strategically, intelligently and leave anger and frustration behind when we go to the voting offices.
Please, please, please do not elect the Conservatives. We need to oppose Trump and his machine more than ever and Puppet Poilievre will only do what the oligarchs and plutocrats command.
